Video Tip: Extended Sitting

Sit at work or at your desk at home?

Health and Fitness Tip: Here’s a quick way to make sure you don’t sit too long without some activity.

Worked in the health and fitness industry isn’t all exercise and flexing. Here I am doing a magazine editorial layout in a chair! 🙂

Even when I was modeling I often sat alot!? LOL.

What’s wrong with sitting?

Studies show that living a sedentary lifestyle can lead to numerous illness such as heart disease, heart attach and even death.  How many times have we all sat at the computer for “just a few minutes to check our email” only to discover that hours have passed? Sitting for an extended amount of time can add weight on your lower body and lead to poor health in general.

But what if you exercise every day and sit alot. According to WebMD, So while that 1-hour jog is great for you, it may not undo the 8 hours sitting at your desk.  Furthermore, sitting for long periods of time contributes to risk of metabolic syndrome, heart attack and stroke risk and overall death risk, among others. Those who sit a great deal also have lower life expectancies, larger bottoms and slower metabolisms.  Prolonged sitting increased health risk by 40% regardless of the physical activity. Yikes! (Huffington Post.)

So what do you do if you sit for your job?

Simple. Set a timer on your watch, iPhone or clock for 30 minutes intervals.  When the alarm goes off, get up and do a few exercises to get the blood flowing, increase energy and be more productive.  Bonus: exercise can even boost creativity!

Exercises to do at your desk or in your (home) or work office

  2. Push Ups
  3. Jumping Jacks
  4. High Knees
  5. Chair Dips
  6. Stretch and deep breaths
  7. Walk around the office
